Our Story – The Heart Behind Bogata Hata

Bogata Hata takes its name from the old Polish saying “Czym chata bogata, tym rada” — meaning “Whatever my house is rich in, you are welcome to.” It is a philosophy rooted not in wealth or excess, but in generosity, warmth, and food shared freely around the table. That spirit sits at the very heart of everything we do.

But our story begins not with food, but with a lorry named Ruby.

Ruby was first commissioned by Andreea, inspired by her Romanian upbringing where hospitality, self-sufficiency, and feeding others generously are second nature. She was built as a bespoke, off-grid tiny home, handcrafted by Matt Banks of Touch Wood Carpentry here in Cornwall— not simply as a place to live, but as a base for a children’s food-growing project. A space to nurture curiosity, community, and a deep respect for the land, shared with her ever-faithful canine companion, Loki.

Then came Roman — and with him, a whole new chapter.

Roman brought with him his Polish heritage: a culture defined by resilience, tradition, and food that tells stories of family, survival, and celebration. Together, Andreea and Roman took Ruby on an extraordinary journey. From the rugged peaks of the Scottish Highlands, hand-feeding deer in the morning mist, to travelling with an equestrian stunt team, and eventually settling into an off-grid life on a smallholding in Suffolk, Ruby became far more than a home.

She became a sanctuary.

A witness to growth.
A vessel for dreams.

They lived in Ruby for two unforgettable years — and during that time, their family grew to include Filip, Maria, and little Kristina (not forgetting Loki the labradoodle!). Life became fuller, louder, messier, and infinitely richer.

And so, Ruby evolved once again.

This time, she transformed into a food hub on wheels, now based in Cornwall in the South West of England. With the help and support of close friend Kacper — director, craftsman, and creative force behind Job Done Properly in Newmarket — Ruby underwent a meticulous, high-end conversion. His expertise and vision brought the kitchen to life, right down to its distinctive Nebula floor.

Today, Bogata Hata is the meeting point of two cultures.
Roman’s deep Polish culinary traditions.

Andreea’s Romanian instinct for abundance, warmth, and feeding people well.

Everything is made from scratch. Everything has a story.

From pierogi sizzling on the griddle, to bigos slowly bubbling in sourdough bread bowls, each dish carries generations of heritage, patience, and love.

Now, Ruby rolls into festivals, wild camping fields, and private events — serving hearty, honest food to people hungry for something real (and a chuckle along the way).

She once carried our family across the UK.

Now, she carries our cultures, our flavours, and our fire.
